Every year we see players on both the men’s and women’s side come out of now where. For the men in 2023 it was Ben Shelton and for the women it was Mira Andreeva. Ben Shelton was 97 when the year started and surged into the top 20 ending the year at #17 in the world. You would have never guessed that Ben had never left the United States prior to the Australian Open, despite playing a sport that requires all players even juniors to travel around the world. Experiencing new cultures, places, and going outside of your comfort zone you would expect that Ben would have growing pains on the ATP Tour. The exact opposite happened. He stormed out of the gate making the quarter-finals of the Australian open. Although he struggled to string consecutive matches mid-year, he finished the last quarter of the season on a tear: making the semi-final of the U.S Open and winning his first ATP 500 title in Tokyo. If you think Ben’s story was crazy, you haven’t met Mira Andreeva. Mira Andreeva started 2023 at #293 on the WTA Tour. She slowly climbed the ranks making the 3rd round of Roland Garros and the 4th round of Wimbledon. She was pretty much the youngest player to do anything since Coco Gauff came on the scene and we all know how that went when she cemented her place at the top of the game by winning the U.S Open this past autumn. Anyway enough of my waffling. Lets see who can replicate Ben Shelton’s and Mira Andreeva’s success in 2024.

Men To Look Out For In 2024

  1. Hamad Medjedovic. He has just won the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah. Sitting outside the top 100 he is coached by Viktor Trocki a player who reached 12 in the world, and he is mentored by Novak Djokovic a player who needs no introduction. Possessing a big serve and a strong baseline game, keep your eye on Hamad to breakthrough in 2024.
  2. Dominic Stricker. The Next Federer. Being from Switzerland he has been compared to the legend since day one although he plays with a game that is more similar to his rival Rafa. Stricker beat Stefanos Tsitsipas at the U.S open this year showcasing what he can do at the highest level. He has got a big forehand and possesses an accurate serve that can get him out of trouble.
  3. Alex Michelsen. A 19 year old alum from Georgia he has already made an ATP final and has played the fewest events out of anyone on this list. He possesses a massive serve and forehand which he uses to great efficiency. Look for Michelsen to have a big hard and grass court season and potentially break into the top 50.
  4. Dino Prizmic. This guy does not look his age and he definitly does not play like it. He is 18 years old and possesses a crazy game. When you watch him play you think it’s Israel vs Hamas because his shots are bombs. Only 18 year old he is just inside the worlds top 150. He has connections to Novak Djokovic so who knows what advice he is giving him. Dino posseses a raw game similar to Alcaraz 3 years ago. If he can harness his potential the sky is the limit for the kid.

Women To Look Out For In 2024

Linda Noskova. She started 2023 outside the top 100 and after having a great start to the year beating Azarenka and Jabeur she skyrocketed into the top 50. Over the course of the season she made 2 WTA 1000 3rd rounds which enabled her to crack into the top 40. Linda is 5 “10 with a big serve and all round great game. Look to see her break into the top 20 with a big run at a slam and solid results in WTA 1000’s.

Linda Fruhvirtova. It is hard to believe she is 18, it seems as if she has been on tour for at least 5 years. She won her first WTA title in late 2022. Although her results have been middling since breaking into the top 50 in mid March, she still has great potential and can do a lot of big things in 2024. Look for a more consistent season from her cementing her place inside the WTA’s top 30.

Ashlyn Krueger. Ashlyn is the first American teenager to break into the top 100 since Coco Gauff. She is 19 years old and won her first WTA title at the Japan open this year. She managed to qualify for the WTA 1000 in Beijing showing us her ability to back up a great result with another one. She is 6’1 meaning that her serve is an absolute bomb.

Robin Montgomery. The 19 year old has failed to live up to the hype since her main draw wild card debut at the 2020 U.S Open. Nevertheless, she has slowly climbed up the ranks reaching a career high of 143. Possessing a very raw game, if she can put the pieces together it would not be suprising to see her make her WTA top 100 debut this year. Her backhand and left serve will be the key to success for her.
